Man's pursuit of happiness
Since ancient times, man has been searching for happiness, investigating its ways and how to achieve it, and exerting all his might in this, Seeking with all his mind, thought and material to find it, but it remains a secret that few have realized what it is; it is an inner feeling that a person feels to give him peace of mind, conscience, openness of the chest, and tranquility of the heart.
The main problem of man lies with the happiness that he has been experiencing since forever because he does not know the tools to achieve it, so he tries to experiment with material and tangible material things to reach happiness, and he finds that he does not reach it, so what is happiness? And where does it lie Is it a decision or an inevitable fate What is Islam's view of her
The concept of happiness
The concept of happiness differs from person to person, and philosophers have differed in its definition as well; as it is a relative term, a person may be happy with something that is considered ordinary for others, and everyone would like to become happy, but when you ask them: what is the meaning of happiness Most of them will not be able to answer correctly, because the concepts are complicated and intertwined, most people no longer distinguish between happiness, well-being and satisfaction, and between surviving death and pain and seeking livelihood and the luxuries of life.
Happiness is an abstract concept that is not limited to a sensory or rational scope, but goes beyond that to what is imaginary, hence the difficulty of limiting and controlling it in a few words that describe it, and therefore the French philosopher Nicolas Chamfort says: (happiness is not an easy thing, it is difficult to find it in our insides, and it is impossible to We find it outside).
Aristotle defines happiness as (pleasure ,- or at least it is closely related to pleasure - and pleasure, in turn, is interpreted as a conscious absence of pain and inconvenience) , where he limits virtue to meditation and philosophy to thinking, and finally arrives at the fact that a life characterized by happiness is a life that is concerned and centered on mental activity, and Spinoza says in his book Ethics: (Happiness is the elation that we realize when we are freed from the bondage of whims, superstitions and prejudices).
Happiness experts Lara Kaur and Debra Rickwood touched on the meaning of happiness, Kaur said: (happiness from my point of view is the ability to experience the widest range of emotions and feelings in a healthy way), as Rickwood said: (happiness is a feeling of satisfaction in the absence of anxiety, turmoil or irritability).
As for Imam Al-Ghazali, he says: (the pleasure and happiness of the children of Adam is the knowledge of Allah, the Almighty), and he follows this by saying: (know that the happiness, pleasure and comfort of everything is according to its nature, everything was created for him, the pleasure of the eye in good images, the pleasure of the ear in good sounds, as well as all other Especially with the knowledge of Allah Almighty, because the heart is created for her).
True happiness
Some of them think that true happiness lies in having a lot of money, some of them imagine it in a luxury house and a luxury car, and some of them see it in prestigious positions or in enjoying breathtaking beauty, or in fulfilling the instincts of the body and the desires of the soul, or in the abundance of children.
Al-Razi says in that: (man shares the pleasure of eating and drinking with all animals, even the vile ones, if it were happiness and perfection, man should not have a virtue in that over animals), and he completes in another context: (these sensual pleasures, if he searches for them, they are not for himself, but their quotient is due to The proof of this is that the more hungry a person is, the more complete the urge to eat is, and the less hunger there is, the less the urge to eat is).
Muslim philosophers consider true happiness in satisfying the thrill of the mind and mind with knowledge and science, in addition to appreciating and raising the value of works based on mental effort, and here Al-Kindi, Ibn miskweh, Al-Farabi, and Ibn Rushd agree that true happiness is manifested in seeking the sciences of wisdom, philosophy, and working with logical and Theoretical Sciences in order to reach honest results and facts, and it is worth mentioning that The ancients agreed that true happiness is manifested in faith, proper constructive work, and the realization of reason and thought to complete the Quench of worldly pleasures, and this is the best way to uplift Nations and finally reach happiness.
