Characteristics of mechanical rocks behaviors
The rock's properties provide a vital link between observed geophysical data and the interpretation of geology. Geosciences Australia and its state and territory partners periodically conduct measurements of rock properties to support various investigations into the composition of the Earth's structure.

The rock properties project consolidates this information into a single database structure and makes it accessible to external customers via the internet delivery discovery web application mapping service (WMS), web feature service (WFS).

We chose to initially focus on the mass, density and magnetic properties including the natural magnetic susceptibility of magnetic residues, as these are of paramount importance magnetic and gravitational data maintained by the Australian Geosciences region in Australia. Additional feature more comprehensive dataset types will be added more than once.

We invite you to contact us if you have Rock property data that can be considered for inclusion in the database. Appropriate data, must be located and measured using recognized technology and not be available through any other online service. We also invite you to provide feedback on the project, the scope of the datasets, and the application web to help us provide the best possible service to our customers.
